There are pranks and then there is the Corona del Mar Class of 2009 prank that resulted in more than $8,000 worth of damage to the campus. The shenanigans (for which 20 students have been identified and “caught”) included: spray-painting walls and doors of the school with benign and profane expressions, dumping bleachers and soccer goals into the swimming pool, gluing pennies to locks and covering trees with toilet paper.
The school district didn’t want to leave the destruction for the pranksters to clean up. Graduation was just around the corner…
I think it would have been great for the teens to be dressed in the orange vests that outlaws assigned to the county’s court referral program proudly don for community service.
At any rate, the authorities are considering suspensions or expulsions for these students. I think the students and/or their families should pay for damages. $8,000 – 20 students $400 per kid and send them home to wait for their diplomas in the mail.
